Trachyrhamphus serratus inhabits sand and mud substrates, Sargassum beds and gravelly bottoms around rocky reefs at depths of 15-100 meters.
Little is known about population size or trends, or about levels of offtake from wild populations but the species ist collected for traditional medicines, especially in China.
