Stegnaster inflatus (Hutton, 1872)

Stegnaster inflatus, or the New Zealand cushion star, is a sea star of the family Asterinidae. This species is endemic to New Zealand.

It has highly variable colouring and can be red, orange, pink, yellow, olive green. Its common name is the "ambush sea star. Ambush sea star inflatus sits in a tent like position to attract fish or crabs to take shelter in it.
