Info

Lipogramma barrettorum is another deep-water fairy bass known so far only from the Caribbean waters around Curaçao, this island belongs together with Aruba and Bonnaire to the group of ABC islands.

Lipogramma barrettorum lives in or directly above an elevated rocky habitat with numerous cracks or holes into which the fish withdrew when the submersible approached. The holotype (photo 1) was collected around 161 meters, two specimens were recorded between 123-160 meters and between 132-141 meters.
The depth ranges for two more specimens are between 90-249 m and 50-246 m and reflect the depths visited during an entire dive with the dive boat.

Etymology
This species of fairy bass was named in recognition of the support it received from Craig and Barbara Barrett of the Smithsonian's Deep Reef Observation Project (DROP).

Common name:
We suggest the colloquial name "blue spotted perch" in reference to the numerous blue/grey markings on the dorsal, anal and caudal fins.

Due to the rather large water depth, it is not to be expected that this pretty perch will enter our aquariums, should this happen for once, then at a very proud price.
