Info

Peltodoris lentiginosa (Millen, 1982)

Peltodoris lentiginosa is a large dorid nudibranch. The dorsum is covered with tubercles which contain spicules, giving the dorsum a gritty texture. The body colour: nearly translucent white to pale yellow, with numerous irregularly spaced brown blotches.

The large size of 18 cm and numerous large blotches make this dorid distinctive.

Feed on the reef-forming sponges Aphrocallistes vastus and Heterochone calyx, as well as of the demosponge Desmacella austini, which encrusts skeletons of the glass sponges.

Synonymised names:
“Montereina” lentiginosa (Millen, 1982)· accepted, alternate representation
Anisodoris lentiginosa Millen, 1982 (original combination)
Diaulula lentiginosa (Millen, 1982) (Although Anisodoris is accepted as a synonym of Diaulula, this species has no caryophyllidia and cannot therefore be included in Diaulula)
