The moon jellyfish Aurelia cebimarensis was first described in 2021, previously it was listed as Aurelia aurita.
Specimens of this jellyfish came from all over the state of São Paulo and from Aracaju, Sergipe, therefore the distribution probably extends over the Brazilian coast from southeast to northeast.
The Moon Jellyfish was named after the Centro de Biologia Marinha (CEBIMar) of the University of São Paulo, which is located exactly where the type specimen was collected.
We have included the species in the encyclopedia, although the initial description lacks essential data such as size, water maturity, water temperature, or diet.
