Info
Eknomisis dalioi is currently known only from these three specimens, which were found on Seamounts Kelvin and Rehoboth of the New
England Seamount Chain, at depths between 1859 and 2331 meters, and was discovered by the ROV Hercules.
Holotype. Kelvin Seamount, New England Seamount Chain, specimen KEL 406-1, collected May 19, 2004,
Paratype: Kelvin Seamount, New England Seamount Chain, specimen KEL 209-1, collected 16 July 2003,
Paratype: Rehoboth Seamount, New England Seamount Chain, specimen REH 101-1, collected 28 August 2005.
In the report "Towards a revision of the bamboo corals (Octocorallia): Part 4, delineating the family Keratoisididae," two additional colonies, KEL 406-1 measuring 1 meter high and 1.5 meters wide, and colony KEL 408-1 measuring approximately 2 to 3 meters long, are described.
The New England Seamounts are a chain of over twenty extinct underwater volcanic mountains (seamounts) and are located off the coast of Massachusetts in the western Atlantic Ocean.
