Info
Ficopomatus enigmaticus is known from both coasts of America, the Azores, many European coasts, the Baltic Sea and from South Australia.
The bag lime tube worm settles on rocks and other hard substrates from littoral and circalittoral zones.
In the Baltic Sea, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, substrates around moorings of small harbors made of the materials stone, metal or plastic were found, as well as in the Warnow River.
Up to 4075 tubeworms per square meter were found in the surveys.
The spread of the invasive species took place through many known methods (ballast water tanks, ship hulls, etc.) but also through active introduction by humans, as on the coasts of Europe.
