Info

Callogobius flavobrunneus often resides under stones or at the base of coral heads in seaward fringing reefs.

The olive-brown to dark brown speckled goby displays weakly developed saddles below the dorsal fin, dark dorsal, anal, and caudal fins that become yellowish outward with light spots, and pale yellow pectoral fins with wavy dark stripes and dark brown bars extending from the eye.

The specific name "flavobrunneum" is composed of the Latin words "flavus" (= yellow) and "brunneus" (= brown) and refers to the olive to yellow-brown coloration of this species with distal yellow dorsal fins, yellowish pectoral fins and a yellow throat.

Synonym: Mucogobius flavobrunneus Smith, 1958

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
