The soft coral genus Eleutherobia included species distributed from southern Africa to the south central Pacific.

Eleutherobia rubra is a temperate and cold water coral that does not enter the retail market.
The photo on the right shows a colony of the colorful, finger-shaped soft coral on the rock surface of Geumodo Island ("Golden Turtle Island"), South Korea, South Sea.

Similar species: Parasphaerasclera zanahoria (Williams, 2000) (formerly Eleutherobia zanahoria Williams, 2000)

The species name "rubra" refers to the red color of the soft coral.
