Caryophyllia (Caryophyllia) calveri is an azooxanthellate stony coral of European waters that grows predominantly on reef-building corals as a substrate for settlement.
This stony coral is associated with white coral reefs as found in the Mediterranean Sea.
Color of the coral: light brown
Everything which we humans do not have directly in the focus, thus regularly see, have it also not in the thoughts, deep sea corals fulfill important functions and belong just as protected, as the colored corals of tropical waters, straight deep sea trawls tear corals, which could bring undisturbed many years of the growth, are torn in seconds from the settlement place and die then fast.
So hands off the creatures of the deep sea!
