Info

Craniella abracadabra de Laubenfels, 1954

The yellow to orange spherical spiny sponge has no stalk. The yellow "rays" are about 3-6 cm long. There are no pores. There is only one oscule at most.

The sponge is found on sandy plains with Halimeda sp, but also under rocks in lagoon reefs and sea stacks, as well as stony soils.

Its special shape, reminiscent of fireworks, led to the unusual species name "abracadabra".
