Info
Unfortunately we can't show any photos of living specimens of Pseudochromis kristinae at the moment, currently we only know the one photo from Dr. Randall, maybe one of "our divers" can post new photos of this species here?
The short description photo
We do not have any keeping experience of this inhabitant of rocky and coral reefs.
Pseudochromis kristinae was first described from Kenya in 2004 in a habitat of silty rocks with holes and ledges, other reports of findings are from coral reefs.
Coloration:
Live coloration (based on photographs of specimens from Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa, and the Comoros, and on the color description of Lubbock, 1977; Plate 8E):
Head and body light olive to olive or grayish pink, paler ventrally, sometimes mustard yellow on anterior part of body and head of body and head;
Specimens larger than about 40 mm SL usually with dark blue spot on anterior part of operculum just posterior to dorsal margin of preoperculum, this bordered with black posteriorly; operculum and cheeks usually with blue spots and irregular markings; posterior margin of orbit dark gray; dark gray stripe from snout to anterior margin of orbit in large specimens; lips and snout sometimes.
Similar species:
Pseudochromis natalensis, Pseudochromis madagascariensis, and Pseudochromis tauberae.
Etymology:
The species name "kristinae" honors the wife, Kristin Marie ("Molly") Gill, in recognition of her love, encouragement, and support.
