Info

Dendronotus robilliardi Korshunova, Sanamyan, Zimina, Fletcher & Martynov, 2016

Taxonomic history: In 1960 Robilliard identified this species as Dendronotus albus, which is incorrect, and he described the actually correct Dendronotus albus as Dendronotus diversicolor. At least, despite his mistake at the time, his realization that they were two independent species was correct.

Dendronotus robilliardi occurs in the northeast Pacific from Alaska to California and in the northwest Pacific from Russia to Korea. It grows to a maximum size of 40 mm. Dendronotus robilliardi differs from Dendronotus albus by having more than four pairs of cerata (typically 5 to 7). Dendronotus albus is larger and never has more than four or five pairs of cerata. Body and cerata are translucent white in Dendronotus robilliardi with opaque white and orange-yellow tips on the cerata, although in some cases the orange-yellow may be missing.

The Robilliard's tree snail prefers to feed on the nesting animal Sertularia argentea from the family Sertulariidae. Dendronotus albus is said to preferAmphisbetia greenei, Hydrallmania distans and Abietinaria inconstans.
