Hesperaptyxis luteopictus (Dall, 1877)

Hesperaptyxis luteopictus is a shell snail from the family Fasciolariidae, which are called tulip and spindle snails due to the shape of their shell. They are predominantly tropical, shallow-water species that prey on mussels and other snails.

The type locality for describing Hesperaptyxis luteopictus is California. It is a maximum of 2.3 cm tall and is colloquially known as the painted spindle snail. Hesperaptyxis luteopictus can be found in shallow water on stones.
