Info
Inconstantia exigua is a stoloniferous soft coral that is quite common on the shores of Cape Town under boulders.
We would like to thank Dr. Charles Griffiths, Emeritus Professor (University of Cape Town), who sent us a photo of this coral.
It is very likely that many Cape Town vacationers may have already noticed this soft coral on site.
Inconstantia exigua requires somewhat cooler water temperatures than typical tropical corals, but keeping it in an aquarium is not recommended due to the growth vigor of the species.
Etymology
The species name "inconstantia" comes from the Latin and means "changeability" or "inconstancy", in recognition of the variety of sclerites and growth forms observed within the genus.
