Info
Using light traps and hand nets, several amphipods were collected in subtidal waters of the East and South Seas of Korea, including new species such as Grandidierella naroensis and Aoroides gracilicrus sp. nov.
The first description of this amphipod species is available under “Further links” and describes the amphipod in detail for those interested.
Nutrition:
The first description provides no information on the diet of Grandidierella naroensis.
The feeding habits of amphipods are very different, most species are scavengers.
Amphipods feed on algae, detritus, tiny insects and even small crustaceans and are irreplaceable for controlling algal growth and breaking down sediments in their habitats.
In addition to copepods, amphipods are important prey for carnivores in the food chain.
Similar species: Grandidierella pseudosakaensis Ariyama, 2020
Etymology. The name of the species is derived from the type locality, Narodo Island, on the south coast of Korea.
