Info
Tanacetipathes tanacetum is a small, simple, feathery, and rarely branched colony that usually grows to a maximum height of 20 cm.
Branches, if present, usually emerge near the base of the stem.
To capture organic food particles, the coral has 10–13 polyps per centimeter in a single row on the branches, with the polyps reaching 0.6–0.8 mm in diameter.
The color of living colonies is grayish; the brownish color is caused by the headlights of the diving boats?
Although Tanacetipathes tanacetum also occurs in very shallow water zones, it is mostly found on deep reefs.
Synonyms:
Antipathes tanacetum Pourtalès, 1880 · unaccepted (new combination)
Parantipathes tanacetum (Pourtalès, 1880) · unaccepted > superseded combination
