Info

(Kolombatovic, 1891)
Colouration
Reddish with blue bands across the body. Blue bands also on head. Two prominent dark spots below the opercle. Dorsal fins with irregular orange-red lines. Males during spawning season with dark head.

Description
Praedorsal area and head nacked. Similar to Odondebuenia balearica. Males during spawning season with prolonged rays of first dorsal fin.

Food
Carnivorous; small vagile animals.

Reproduction
Spawning season around May.

Habitat
5 - 25 m. Rocky shores. Very hidden. In empty holes of boring bivalves at entrances of caves and in cavities. Needs probably good water quality. Rather common but difficult to find.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
