Info

Didogobius splechtnai is a small, cave-dwelling goby endemic to the Mediterranean, which often shares its habitat with the goby Corcyrogobius liechtensteini (Kolombatovic, 1891).

However, the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species also lists the Black Sea as a habitat.

Jürgen HERLER wrote a thesis on this goby entitled Morphological and ecological studies on the two cave-dwelling Mediterranean gobiids Corcyrogobius liechtensteini and Didogobius splechtnai, but unfortunately we were unable to get hold of it to complete the limited data available on the Splechtna goby.

However, it is known that it can often be found in quite large numbers in suitable caves with fine sediment .
Unfortunately, we could not find any information about the diet of the goby, so we have to leave this point open.

Due to its inconspicuous camouflage coloration, the goby quickly blends in with its surroundings and is therefore very well protected from predators.
