Info

(Delais, 1951)Distribution
Eastern Atlantic: Senegal (Gorée) to Ghana (Matrakni Point and off Tema; River Lubbock) and Pagalu.

Biology
Occurs in intertidal rocks and pools.
Also found ,on rocks, sand and girders in the sublittoral zone as well as in areas of heavy wave surge perhaps facultative on echinoderms.

Low vulnerability.

Synonymised taxa:
Gobius lepidogenys Robins, 1970
Gobius nigricinctus Delais, 1951

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.

A small night light also helps, as it provides the fish with a means of orientation in the dark!
