Info

Lysmatella prima, Borradaile, 1915
Lysmatella prima is a cleaner shrimp with a translucent yellow body color and longitudinal red stripes, yellow legs and white or yellowish antennae. It has a long straight rostrum, thin claws, almost indistinguishable from normal legs. The tail has two lateral yellow bands.

The shrimp are found in pairs or in colonies on sandy areas around coral and rocky reefs at cleaning stations, where they wave their antennas to attract cleaning customers.

When a diver brings his hand close to a shrimp, the shrimp moves onto the hand and performs a cleaning manicure.
