Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Isopora togianensis are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Isopora togianensis, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Isopora togianensis, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Wallace, 1997

Very special thanks to Dr. Douglas Fenner, one of the most important marine scientist of the world, for the first two photos of Isopora togianensis.

“From Veron, J.E.N. Corals of the World.”

Colonies have thick sturdy branches which are circular in cross section and diverge from a solid base. Branches slightly taper and have a single dome-shaped axial corallite. Radial corallites are small and immersed. The coenosteum is composed of fine spinules with elaborated tips which are raised into Montipora-like tuberculae.

Colour: Dark brown with white branch ends.

Habitat: Shallow water, especially exposed upper reef slopes and flats.

Abundance: Locally common.

Similar species: Acropora brueggemanni , Acropora cylindrica

Synonms:
Acropora cylindrica Veron & Fenner, 2000
Acropora togianensis Wallace, 1997

Classification: Biota > Animalia (Kingdom) > Cnidaria (Phylum) > Anthozoa (Class) > Hexacorallia (Subclass) > Scleractinia (Order) > Acroporidae (Family) > Isopora (Genus)
