Patiriella regularis (Verrill, 1867)

Patiriella regularis is a small pentagonal cushion seastar.Colours of the of the upper furface can vary, usually bluish green , but sometomes brown, green, orange or red , the under site is white. The arms ar often with blueish tips.

The cushion seastar lives in rocky areas from 1m to 30 m depth, generally in waters colder than 20°C.

This sea star is omnivore, feeds on algal films,barnacles, molluscs and small crustaceans,and carrion.

There is a concern that this sea star may be an invasive species.

Very similar to Meridiastra mortenseni.
