Info
The tube coral Telesto nelleae is found in significantly different water temperatures and can also cope with large temperature differences.
Telesto nelleae is similar to Telesto fruticulosa, but differs in the presence of elongated, spindle-shaped sclerites in the coenenchyma and the presence of a sparse accumulation of flat rods, which are restricted to the base of the tentacles.
In addition to the elongated spindles, granular and branched sclerites are present in the coenenchyma.
The color of the colony is yellowish-brown.
Nothing else is known about this azooxanhellate coral.
Similar species: Telesto fruticulosa Dana, 1846
Our very special and heartfelt thanks for the permission to use all color photos from the article "Identification guide to the shallow water (0-200 m) octocorals of the South Atlantic Bight" goes to the two authors Drs. Steve Morton & Susan DeVictor, USA.
