Echinophyllia tarae sp. n. inhabits protected reef habitats and was observed between 5 and 20 m depth. It commonly grows on dead coral fragments, usually parts of branching or tabular Acropora colonies, which are covered by crustose coralline algae and fleshy macroalgae.
This coral is described from the Gambier Islands, French Polynesia, South Pacific.
