The species is names after Dr. Mark Erdmann, a prolific diver, underwater explorer and ichthyologist who has also been honored with his name on Meiacanthus erdmanni and Pseudochromis erdmanni.
Trimma erdmanni inhabits coral reefs, often outer slopes on isolated rock or coral outcrops in a depth of 12-66 meters.

Jumping guard
A jumping guard prevents (nocturnal) fish from jumping out.
Wrasses, blennies, hawkfishs and gobies jump out of an unprotected tank in fright if their night rest is disturbed, unfortunately these jumpers are found dried up in the morning on carpets, glass edges or later behind the tank.
