Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Porites studeri are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Porites studeri, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Porites studeri, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

This species occurs on sandy reef slopes and is most common in very deep waters.
The colonies are massive and have a previously unknown size range

Porites studeri prefers marine areas with a not too strong current.

Similar species: Porites lobata is very similar, except that the septa are thinner and usually 8 pali can be recognized

Color: light brown / tan

We would like to thank Dr. Douglas Fenner for the great photos he was able to take around Hawaii.
