Petrolisthes bolivarensis Werding & Kraus, 2003
Petrolisthes bolivarensis was at times thought to be a variation of Petrolisthes galathinus, but was described as a separate species in 2003.
Petrolisthes bolivarensis is a porcelain crayfish that is native to Caribbean waters, where it can be found on hard bottoms and coral rubble down to depths of 100m. In contrast to the porcelain crabs of the genus Neopetrolisthes, Petrolisthes bolivarensis does not require sea anemones or other hosts.
Petrolisthes bolivarensis differs morphologically from all other Caribbean representatives of the complex except Petrolisthes columbiensis by its strikingly broad claws. It has other unique characteristics. There are two orange or yellow dots on each claw and a zebra pattern with distinct purple lines on the body. It has bright blue mouthparts and a purple underside.
It is completely reef safe and peaceful.
