Alpheus armatus Rathbun, 1901

Alpheus is a genus of snapping shrimp of the family Alpheidae. This genus contains in excess of 250 species, making this the most species-rich genus of shrimp. Like other snapping shrimp, the claws of Alpheus are asymmetrical, with one of the claws enlarged for making a popping noise.

This snapping shrimp live in association with a sea anemone, usually Bartholomea annulata, which inhabits caves, overhangs and crevices, as well as coral rubble.

Feeds on small crustaceans, molluscs and even tiny fish.

Uns wurde dieser schöne Knallkrebs seinerzeit als Symbiosekrebs verkauft...Tja, definitiv ist er es nicht! Er griff unsere Stonogobiops yasha an, sobald sie ihm zu nahe kam. Nachdem wir ihn dann in unser großes Becken gesetzt hatten, suchte er sich einen übersichtlichen Platz im Riffgestein, den er bis heute immer noch bewohnt. Zur Futteraufnahme kommt er aus dem Versteck raus, sonst hört man ihn meistens "knallen"... Vor seiner Höähle liegen regelmäßig leere Schneckenhäuser , manchmal auch Borstenwürmer. Er verteidigt sein Revier, allerdings konnte ich keine Angriffe auf Fische mehr beobachten...Ein sehr interessanter Geselle!!!

Geschlechtsunterschied: Die ersten Schwimmbeinpaare sind beim Männchen zu Gonopoden umgebildet; dieses Begattungsorgan ist sehr gut zu erkennen da es länger ist als die übrigen Schwimmbeine. Die Weibchen haben normale Schwimmbeine.

Es gibt keine Geschlechtsumwandlung.
