Husbandry

Scarus xanthopleura, also known as red parrotfish and bluechin parrotfish, is found in the Western Pacific: Ryukyu, Sulawesi, Palau and Marshall Islands. Also found in Indonesia, Scarus xanthopleura is easily identified by his overall red colour. It lacks the dorsal filament of Scarus altipinnis and uniformly green cheek patch of Scarus prasiognathos, which are otherwise similar.

The bluechin parrotfish is rare, uncommon inhabitant of clear lagoon and seaward reefs, usually seen along drop-offs solitary or a small groups of 1 male with 1 or 2 females.

Class: Actinopterygii
Order: Perciformes
