Info

(Forsskål, 1775)

The first photo was taken during a dive off Thudufushi (Maldives).

Lutjanus fulviflamma inhabits coral reefs and is usually found in schools on coastal reefs and in deep lagoons.
Other snappers such as Lutjanus kasmira and Lutjanus lutjanus also like to mix in the large schools of Lutjanus fulviflamma.
Juveniles are sometimes found in mangrove estuaries or even in the lower reaches of freshwater rivers.

The average age varies regionally, ranging from 14.3 years to 18.3 years.
The snapper is used in subsistence fishing, but is also commonly found in markets, where it is usually sold fresh.
